Kenya: Ruto Announces National Conversation On Kenya's Roadmap Beyond Vision 2030

AllAfrica, citing a Capital FM report from Nairobi, says President William Ruto has announced a national dialogue to begin on August 12, 2026, aimed at shaping Kenya’s development agenda after Vision 2030. In a national address on Thursday, Ruto framed the process as a major public consultation that would help define the country’s long-term economic and social priorities beyond the current blueprint.

According to the report, the exercise is intended to lead to a national development charter succeeding Vision 2030, which was launched in 2008 under former President Mwai Kibaki. That plan was built around economic, social and political pillars and sought to move Kenya toward middle-income, industrialising status through growth, expanded services and governance reforms. Capital FM noted that Vision 2030 also supported major infrastructure and institutional initiatives, including the Thika Superhighway and the Vision 2030 Delivery Secretariat.

Ruto said the new framework should reflect the aspirations of the 2010 Constitution and be resilient beyond election cycles. The consultations are expected to involve political parties, private sector actors, academics, religious organisations, professional groups, civil society, workers’ representatives, youth and the creative sector. He argued that the next plan should not be left solely to government or political leaders.

The president also said he had consulted leaders, scholars, business figures, faith representatives, civil society and young people in recent months. A team led by Professor Hiroyuki Hino and Kisumu Governor Professor Anyang’ Nyong’o has submitted strategic guidelines that will provide a starting point for the nationwide discussions, though Ruto said the final direction should be shaped by citizens.
