Kenya: Regina Re's Mother Died From Multiple Stab Wounds, Autopsy Reveals

What the report says
An autopsy in Nairobi has found that Dorita Macharia, the 86-year-old mother of actress Regina Re, died from heavy blood loss after sustaining multiple stab wounds to the neck. Government pathologist Bernard Midia said the postmortem at Lee Funeral Home also showed more than 20 other injuries, including deep cuts to the face, neck and arms, along with a fracture to her left upper arm. Investigators said the wounds were caused by a sharp object, though the exact weapon has not been identified.
The examination was attended by detectives from Kenya’s Directorate of Criminal Investigations, pathologists and lawyers representing both the family and suspects. Family lawyer Philip Murgor said the cause of death has now been established, while police continue to investigate how the killing unfolded and who may be responsible. The case centers on Macharia’s death at her home in Loresho Ridge Estate on October 30.
Court documents cited in the report say the inquiry includes allegations that Macharia confronted her granddaughter, Thandie Malaika, over a dispute involving visitors in the house before a later commotion was reported. Police are also examining claims that parts of the scene may have been cleaned after the body was found. Regina Re, Thandie Malaika, Jimmy Macharia and Immanuel Munyeki were remanded for 10 days as detectives continue their investigation; none has been convicted. The case has drawn public attention because of the family connection and the violent nature of the death.
