What the report says

ODM leader and Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga has been seen walking in London after travelling to the United Kingdom for what his party has described as a routine medical check-up. The account, carried by Capital FM and distributed by AllAfrica, says he was accompanied by his son Elijah, his aide-de-camp Peter, and ODM Chief of Staff Michael Agwanda during the evening outing.

The visit follows a brief hospitalization in Nairobi that drew public attention to his health. According to the report, Odinga was admitted to Nairobi Hospital on August 29 and later discharged, then confirmed on September 1 that he was recovering at home before leaving for Britain for further examination. ODM officials have said he is well and that no serious illness has been disclosed.

The story comes at a sensitive moment for the Orange Democratic Movement, which is preparing for the 2027 General Election and adjusting to the political changes that followed the death of former leader Raila Odinga in October 2025. Oburu Odinga, Raila’s elder brother, was elected party leader in March 2026 after serving in an acting capacity. The London appearance has therefore attracted interest both for health reasons and because of his leadership role in one of Kenya’s major opposition parties.
