A manhunt is under way in Kenya after a General Service Unit officer was accused of shooting and killing a woman at the GSU Mess in Naiberi, Uasin Gishu County. The report, published by Capital FM and distributed by AllAfrica, says the incident happened on Sunday around 5 p.m. and involved a dispute at the compound where the woman had reportedly been drinking alcohol.

Police identified the woman as 45-year-old Doris Murei Nandi. According to the police report cited in the article, the officer, a police constable identified as PC Nathan Kirwa, was armed with a rifle when he allegedly fired the shot that killed her. The suspect reportedly fled the scene afterward and remained at large when the article was published.

Officers from multiple units, including county police leadership, crime scene personnel and Naiberi Police Station, visited the location and processed the area. Police said they recovered seven spent 9mm cartridges, a Toyota Corolla and a rifle holster believed to be linked to the suspect. The woman’s body was taken to Eldoret Hospital mortuary for preservation ahead of a postmortem. The case is being handled by the Ainabkoi Sub-County Criminal Investigations Office as investigators continue to establish the circumstances of the shooting.
