Kenya: Laikipia Confirms Two Suspected Ebola Cases Test Negative

What the report says
Laikipia County health officials in Kenya have said two suspected Ebola virus disease cases in Nanyuki tested negative, easing concern after reports of a possible case at Nanyuki Teaching and Referral Hospital prompted public anxiety. The update was reported by Capital FM and distributed by AllAfrica. Officials said they had activated precautionary measures once a patient showed symptoms similar to Ebola, and samples were sent for laboratory analysis.
According to Laikipia County Health Executive Committee Member Albert Taiti, the first patient’s test result ruled out Ebola, although the patient later died while receiving care at the hospital. The county then received a second alert from a private hospital in Nanyuki, and that patient’s samples were also taken to the National Public Health Laboratory. Those results likewise came back negative for Ebola.
County officials used the announcement to stress preparedness and calm, saying health workers had been briefed on how to identify and manage suspected cases of the highly infectious disease. Residents were urged to stay vigilant, report concerns to health authorities, and avoid sharing unverified claims that could spread panic. The episode highlights how quickly suspected viral threats can trigger concern and why rapid testing and official communication are central to outbreak response.
