Kenya: Kenya Confirms Second Ebola Case

What the report says
Kenya has confirmed a second Ebola case, according to a report distributed by AllAfrica from Capital FM. The patient is a 39-year-old man and a close family member of the first confirmed case, who died. Health authorities said he had already been in quarantine and under daily monitoring when he developed symptoms including fever, fatigue and joint pain on October 13.
Officials isolated the man right away, and samples tested positive at both the National Virology Reference Laboratory and the KEMRI-CDC laboratory. He has been moved to a designated treatment centre for supportive care. The Ministry of Health said the quick detection and isolation reduced the chance of additional spread, and noted that the two confirmed cases are linked with no sign so far of wider community transmission.
Contact tracing remains underway. The report says 128 contacts linked to the first patient have been identified, with 113 traced by October 13. Of those, 108 were in quarantine in Kenya and being monitored for 21 days, while five were outside the country and had been referred to other health authorities. Teams are also checking anyone who may have encountered the second patient after symptoms began, including quarantine staff and health workers.
The ministry said prevention measures have been strengthened at quarantine and treatment sites, and it urged anyone with possible Ebola symptoms to seek care promptly. It also said Kenya remains open, with no restrictions on travel, trade or public gatherings, while the response continues with the World Health Organization and other health authorities.
