What the report says

Kenyan authorities have started registering Ethiopian refugees who are arriving after renewed clashes in Moyale, a contested border town in Ethiopia, according to Addis Standard as republished by AllAfrica. The response is being carried out with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the Kenya Red Cross Society, with the first registration work reported to have begun at temporary reception sites in Marsabit County around 31 October.

The article says more than 50,000 people have crossed into Kenya since fighting intensified in late October. Registration teams are reportedly using blue wristbands with identification codes to record arrivals, including children, and to support later household profiling and aid distribution. Temporary accommodation has been set up in places such as schools, churches and camps while many refugees are also staying with relatives or host communities.

Humanitarian agencies and county authorities are coordinating the response, and the report says needs include food, water, shelter, sanitation, health care and protection services. UNHCR, IOM and UNICEF are among the organizations involved, and agencies have sought about $8.9 million for a three-month response. The situation adds pressure to communities on both sides of the border and follows a long-running dispute in Moyale involving territory and local administration.
