Kenya: KCB Rugby to Invest All Energies Towards National 7s Circuit Clean Sweep

AllAfrica, carrying a Capital FM report from Nairobi dated July 28, 2026, reported that KCB Rugby are targeting a sweep of the National Sevens Circuit after winning the Prinsloo 7s. Captain Elvis Olukusi said the team believes it can win every leg of the competition, while noting that areas such as team connection, defence and conversion rates still need improvement.

KCB secured the Prinsloo title with a 19-12 win over rivals Kabras Sugar in the final at Nakuru Athletic Club. According to the report, KCB led 19-5 at halftime before Kabras threatened a comeback through a second-half try by Brian Mutua. The victory gave KCB their fifth Prinsloo 7s title and ended a wait dating back to 2017 for another win at the tournament.

The result also carried added significance after KCB lost to Strathmore Leos in last year’s edition of the same competition. Olukusi said the side had been determined to make amends after reaching the final previously but failing to take the trophy. The team, coached by Andrew Amonde, now turns attention to the Dala 7s in Kisumu.

The Dala 7s, the second leg of the National Sevens Circuit, is scheduled for August 1-2 at Mamboleo Stadium. Capital FM reported that KCB, the defending champions, are placed in Pool A alongside Masinde Muliro University, Impala RFC and Zetech Oaks. The circuit is an important domestic platform for Kenya’s rugby sevens clubs, with momentum across each leg shaping title ambitions.
