What the report says

A murder trial in Nairobi heard new testimony about businessman Tob Cohen’s final days as prosecutors continued their case against Sarah Wairimu Kamotho, who is charged in connection with his death. Former MP Patrick Muiruri told the High Court that Cohen had raised fears for his safety shortly before he died and allegedly told him that if he was found dead, “it is Sarah.” The hearing was reported by Capital FM and distributed by AllAfrica.

According to the testimony, Cohen had spoken to Muiruri about marital problems and an intention to divorce Wairimu. He also reportedly referred to concerns about property documents and company funds. Muiruri said their last conversation took place days before Cohen disappeared, and he also described an earlier public dispute between the couple at a wedding in 2018.

The prosecution also called a law firm clerk, Mary Mutisya, who said Wairimu had asked for a search of land records tied to Cohen’s property and later followed up on removing a caveat. A government analyst, John Mungai, produced items said to be linked to Cohen, including clothing and other exhibits recovered during the investigation. Cohen’s body was found in a water tank at his Nairobi compound in September 2019 after he was reported missing. The case remains significant because it centers on one of Kenya’s most closely watched murder trials, with the court due to continue hearing evidence on October 14, 2026.
