What the report says

Kenya’s meteorological service has warned that several parts of the country are likely to receive above-average rainfall during October, with some areas expected to face heavy downpours. The forecast was reported by Capital FM and distributed by AllAfrica on 2 October 2026, citing the Kenya Meteorological Department. The strongest rainfall outlook covers coastal counties including Kwale, Mombasa, Kilifi and Lamu, as well as Mandera in the north-east.

The agency also said parts of Taita Taveta, Tana River, Garissa and Wajir could see above-average rain, alongside a broad swath of central and eastern counties such as Nairobi, Kiambu, Machakos, Makueni, Murang’a, Kirinyaga, Embu, Meru and Isiolo. Other areas flagged in the outlook include Marsabit, Laikipia, Nakuru and Narok.

According to the forecast, several western, Rift Valley and northern counties are expected to receive near-average to above-average rainfall, including Bungoma, Kakamega, Kisumu, Kisii, Kericho, Nandi, Turkana, Uasin Gishu and West Pokot. The warning matters because heavy rain can raise the risk of flooding, disrupt transport and affect communities in low-lying or flood-prone areas.

The report says some counties, including Nairobi, have begun preparing for possible flooding and other weather-related impacts. Residents in vulnerable areas were advised to monitor official updates and take precautions as conditions evolve through the month.
