Kenya: Four More Golfers Edge Closer to Somabay World Cup After Eldoret Qualifiers

AllAfrica, republishing a Capital FM report by Omondi Onyatta, reported that four golfers advanced from the Road to Somabay World Cup qualifiers held at Eldoret Club in Eldoret on Thursday evening. Nathan Tororei led the field with 40 Stableford points, edging Sylvia Chelagat, who also scored 40, on countback. Faith Chemutai and Hellen Yego also secured qualifying places after winning their divisions.

According to the report, Chemutai topped Division A with 39 points, ahead of Mercy Karoney, who also returned 39. Yego won Division B with 39 points, while Cyrus Kataron followed on 38. The qualifiers from Eldoret will join players who have progressed through earlier regional events as the Kenya series moves toward the Road to SomaBay Grand Finale.

Tournament director Collins Were said the event is intended to support amateur golf while strengthening sporting links between Kenya and Egypt. Commercial Investment Bank Kenya CEO Titus Mwithiga also framed the series as a bridge between the two countries, connecting golf, tourism, business and people-to-people relations. The report identifies the qualifiers as a collaboration between Michezonet and CIB.

Capital FM reported that the Somabay World Cup is scheduled for October 12-17 at Cascades Golf Resort Spa and Thalasso in Somabay, Egypt, on the Red Sea coast. After the Eldoret leg, the Kenya Series is set to continue at Royal Nairobi Golf Club, keeping the pathway open for more local golfers to qualify for the international stage.
