What the report says

Four people have been arrested in western Kenya after police seized more than 66 kilogrammes of cannabis in coordinated anti-narcotics operations in Busia and Bungoma counties, according to AllAfrica’s publication of a Capital FM report dated 2 October 2026. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations said the cases involved separate vehicle interceptions in the two counties and are part of broader efforts against drug trafficking.

In Busia County, officers from the National Anti-Narcotics Investigation Bureau acted on intelligence to stop a Fuso lorry on the Busia-Kisumu Highway. The vehicle, which was carrying cereals to Nairobi, was searched and police said 59.15 kilogrammes of cannabis were found hidden under dry cassava and packed in sacks. The DCI estimated the street value of that seizure at Sh1.7 million. Two suspects, Evans Josiah Mugambi and Moses Murambula Odwera, were arrested.

In a second operation in Bungoma County, officers on patrol along the Siritanyi-Mateka Road stopped a Toyota Probox and recovered seven kilogrammes of cannabis concealed in a sack. Police said two more suspects, Boaz Kwamba and Peter Ndungu, were detained in connection with that consignment.

The suspects remained in custody as detectives processed the cases ahead of court action, while the vehicles and drugs were held as evidence. The case underscores the continuing use of commercial and private vehicles to move narcotics across county borders in Kenya, a pattern that law enforcement agencies have been trying to disrupt.
