Kenya: Enwealth Foundation Puts Entrepreneurial Capability At Centre of SME Growth

What the report says
More than 50 Kenyan entrepreneurs have completed the first cohort of the Enwealth Foundation’s SEED Programme, a 12-week business education initiative held in Nairobi, according to Capital FM, as republished by AllAfrica. The programme focused on leadership, governance and financial discipline, with training in areas such as business planning, enterprise growth strategy, financial literacy, risk management, human resources, sales and distribution, public procurement, regulatory compliance, licensing, digital tools and basic cybersecurity awareness.
The Enwealth Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Enwealth Financial Services Limited, said the initiative was created to help address capability gaps that can hold back small and medium-sized enterprises, alongside broader challenges around access to finance. Simon Wafubwa, founder and chief executive of Enwealth Financial Services, said the foundation wanted to strengthen entrepreneurs first so they could build more sustainable businesses.
The report also included comments from a graduating entrepreneur, John Gitahi, who said the training improved his financial discipline, planning and confidence in decision-making. Programme facilitator Eva Muraya said leadership and governance are key to whether small businesses can grow in a durable way. The foundation said this was the first cycle of the SEED Programme and that it plans to repeat it, suggesting a longer-term effort to support SME development in Kenya.
