Kenya: EACC Arrests Two More Nyamira County Assembly Officials Over Sh367mn Tender

What the report says
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) said it has arrested two more officials from the Nyamira County Assembly in Kenya over alleged irregularities tied to a Sh367 million tender for an office block project. The agency said the suspected procurement lapses led to a loss of Sh30,187,396 in public money.
According to the report carried by Capital FM and distributed by AllAfrica, the two officials are David Nyarango Ombego, the deputy clerk and director of legislative, legal procedure and committee services, and Joyce Onyiego, who serves as director of monitoring and evaluation. The EACC said the arrests were carried out in a coordinated operation in Kisii County, and the pair were being processed at its South Nyanza regional office ahead of arraignment.
The commission said the officials could face charges including abuse of office, failure to follow public finance rules and neglect of duty. Their arrest brings to five the number of Nyamira County Assembly officials detained in connection with the investigation.
Three others have already been arrested and charged, including the county assembly clerk, a county roads and public works chief officer, and an infrastructure officer. The case remains under investigation, and the allegations will be tested through the courts. More broadly, anti-corruption investigations into public procurement in Kenya often draw attention because they affect county spending and the delivery of infrastructure projects.
