What the report says

AllAfrica, carrying a Capital FM report from Nairobi, says homicide detectives from Kenya’s Directorate of Criminal Investigations have arrested Richard Gikuhe Mbugua, described by investigators as the prime suspect in the killing of Technical University of Kenya lecturer Edgar Mokua. The report says Mbugua was arrested in Ruiru Blue Estate after a forensic-led inquiry connected a grey Toyota Ractis, registration KBZ 002R, to the place where Mokua’s body was allegedly dumped.

According to the report, investigators believe the vehicle was used to leave the body at the scene before it drove away. The car was later found at Murera Farm in Juja and is being held as a key exhibit. The DCI said forensic analysis of evidence gathered during the investigation led detectives from the vehicle to Mbugua.

Capital FM reported that Mokua was last seen alive on July 6 after leaving his home at Princes Park in Lavington at about 4:20 p.m. His family later filed a missing person report at Muthangari Police Station after failing to locate him. Five days later, officers from Kiamumbi Police Station recovered his body near Woodcreek Academy, and relatives later identified the remains at Nairobi City Mortuary.

The report says detectives established that Mokua had spent several hours on the night of his disappearance at Kettle Club in Lavington with two men and a woman, before the group moved to Ibiza Club at Lavington Mall. His companions reportedly left him there, and he was not seen alive again. Mbugua remains in police custody pending arraignment, while detectives continue looking into the motive and whether more suspects were involved.
