Kenya: 25 Emerging Music Creatives and Professionals Unveiled for the Nairobi Edition of Swift Academy

Twenty-five emerging music creatives and professionals have been selected for the Nairobi edition of Swift Academy, a pan-African talent development platform created by Martell and curated by Africa House, according to Capital FM’s report published through AllAfrica. The cohort was introduced at an industry mixer in Nairobi as the programme began its first phase.

The report says participants will take part over the coming weeks in mentor-led discussions, workshops, networking sessions, breakout mentorship and creative collaborations. They will also receive access to resources such as studio time, professional development support and community spaces. The programme is set to conclude in October with a showcase and progress presentations, giving participants a chance to present what they have developed.

Mentors named in the Nairobi programme include Bensoul, Monica Kemoli, Anyiko Owoko, Njerae and Joey Akan. The first session took place on Tuesday, September 15, with a panel conversation focused on industry experience and the practical challenges of building sustainable music careers. Martell’s Head of Culture & Partnerships, Lanre Odutola, said the initiative is intended to expand access, collaboration and practical support for emerging talent.

Africa House co-founder Jade Kelly Wilson said the first cohort reflected the depth of talent in Nairobi’s creative scene. The report adds that support will continue after the in-person programme through virtual check-ins and mentorship, with the aim of strengthening pathways for participants in Kenya’s wider music industry.
