KCCA, Kitara Face Home Exile After Fufa Rejects Stadiums

Nile Post reports that KCCA FC and Kitara FC may have to stage Uganda Premier League home matches away from their usual grounds after the Federation of Uganda Football Associations rejected MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo and Royals Park in Butema during club licensing inspections for the 2026/27 season. FUFA approved seven venues and rejected eight others, meaning affected clubs must fix the cited gaps and pass a new inspection or name alternative home stadiums.

According to the report, MTN Omondi Stadium was failed over a worn artificial surface, especially near the goalmouths, as well as concerns about player safety, technical benches and floodlighting. Nile Post says the venue’s lighting averaged 503 lux, below FUFA’s licensing threshold. Royals Park was cited for an uneven pitch, inadequate dressing-room facilities, limited working showers for the away team, poor signage, unfinished sanitary areas and no dedicated media workspace.

The approved grounds listed by Nile Post are St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende; Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo; Mutesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku; Kiira Police Arena; Lugazi Stadium; the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru; and Rwamwanja Stadium in Kamwenge. Other rejected venues reportedly include Bugonga Fisheries Ground, Luzira Prisons Ground, Kigezi Al-Madina Ground, Mbale City Stadium, Bombo Barracks Ground and Ebenezer University Ground.

The licensing inspections matter because FUFA requires top-flight clubs to meet minimum standards on infrastructure, safety, medical provision, media operations and match-day management before hosting league fixtures. The process is presented as aligned with CAF standards and aimed at improving football facilities and protecting players, officials and spectators. If KCCA and Kitara cannot secure approval in time, their supporters could face a season opener away from familiar home bases.
