KCCA demolishes buildings over alleged planning violations

What the report says
The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has demolished two buildings under construction in Nakasero, Kampala, over alleged breaches of planning rules. According to the report from The Independent Uganda, the first structure was removed along Nakasero Road near the Kampala Resident District Commissioner’s office after officials said it had been built in a road reserve and without approved plans.
The enforcement operation was carried out by KCCA’s team with police support. During the demolition, police reportedly arrested several people at the site and seized construction equipment, including a crane, concrete mixers and a generator. The article said the building was believed to be linked to businessman Hamis Kiggundu, but that claim had not been independently confirmed at the time of publication.
The operation was briefly disrupted when a group of men reportedly tried to interfere, but police and KCCA officials contained the situation. KCCA later moved to Kololo Baskerville Street, where another building under construction was also demolished. That project was described as possibly linked to Chinese nationals, though this too was unverified.
KCCA said it was acting against developments carried out without the required approvals or on land set aside for public infrastructure. The authority said it was still gathering details before issuing a formal statement. The actions are likely to intensify scrutiny of building compliance in Kampala, especially where construction may affect road reserves and other planned public spaces.
