KCCA Begins 16-Month Rehabilitation of Yusuf Lule, Old Kireka, Bombo II Roads

Kampala Capital City Authority has started another round of road rehabilitation under the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area Urban Development Programme, with work expected to take 16 months. The latest phase covers several busy corridors, including Old Kireka Road, Lance Road, Kireka Link, Bombo Road II between Wandegeya and Bwaise, Yusuf Lule Road, Gaddafi Road and Bukoto Street.

According to KCCA, the project is meant to improve road infrastructure, ease movement and support the city’s growing transport needs. The authority said the upgraded roads should strengthen connections across Kampala and make travel for people and goods more efficient once the works are completed.

KCCA warned that motorists should expect interruptions, longer travel times and possible congestion during construction. It advised road users to plan ahead, use alternative routes and follow traffic management instructions. The authority said diversion signs will be installed and that Traffic Police officers and road marshals will be deployed to help manage movement and reduce disruption.

The rehabilitation is part of a wider urban development programme that has supported road works across the Kampala metropolitan area in recent years. In general, such projects are intended to reduce congestion, improve access and modernize transport infrastructure, though the full impact will depend on how smoothly the works proceed and how traffic is managed during the construction period.
