Kayunga Secondary Schools Hold Debate Ahead of UNSA Elections

What the report says
More than 10 secondary schools in Kayunga District took part in a student debate ahead of the 2026 Uganda National Students Association (UNSA) elections, according to Nile Post. The maiden open forum was hosted at St Mark High School in Busana Sub-county and brought together learners from schools across the district to discuss leadership, education and other national issues.
The discussion featured a crossfire format in which students tackled topics such as governance, political participation, national development and student welfare. Organisers said the exercise was designed to give young people practical exposure to public speaking, critical thinking and democratic participation as they prepare for leadership contests under UNSA.
Kayunga UNSA District Coordinator Daniel Emonyu praised the initiative as an important step in helping students understand leadership responsibilities and civic engagement. A principal panellist, Henry Martin Tendo, also welcomed the platform, saying student debate and leadership activities can build confidence and deepen understanding of democratic processes.
The report said the debate began with music and other confidence-building activities before opening discussions at midday. The elections and related debates are scheduled for Saturday at Musiitwa Secondary School in Kayunga District. More broadly, the event reflects ongoing efforts to involve students in organised leadership processes and encourage constructive dialogue on issues affecting schools and communities.
