What the report says

Residents of Kitimbwa Town Council in Kayunga District have raised alarm over an alleged land survey on about 140 hectares they say they have occupied for years. According to Nile Post, more than 150 households fear the exercise could be linked to plans that might eventually lead to their eviction. They allege the survey was carried out by a group led by a man identified only as Tikansiimire, without their consent, advance notice or compensation.

The affected residents sought help from Kayunga Deputy Resident District Commissioner John Magezi, asking district authorities to investigate what they described as a possible attempt to take over their land. Magezi warned that land surveys should not proceed without the knowledge of the RDC’s office and said his office had not received any request to survey the disputed property. He urged residents to remain alert and to report suspected land grabbing or other unlawful activity promptly.

Nile Post reported that the ownership status of the land, the purpose of the survey and the identity of those behind it have not been independently verified. The allegations against Tikansiimire and the survey team remain unproven, and it is still unclear whether the households have formal documentation supporting their claims.

The case reflects broader land tensions in parts of Kayunga District, where disputes over ownership and alleged grabs have continued to surface. For the residents, the immediate concern is preventing displacement while authorities determine whether the survey was lawful and who has rights to the land.
