Kawempe Muslim seal historic CAF Women’s Champions League qualification

Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC have made history by becoming the first Ugandan club to qualify for the CAF Women’s Champions League. According to Nile Post, the Ugandan champions secured the place after beating Kenya Police Bullets 1-0 in extra time in the CECAFA Women’s Champions League qualifiers final held in Kigali, Rwanda.

The match was tightly contested and finished scoreless after 90 minutes, with both sides creating chances but failing to score. Nile Post reported that Agnes Nabukenya had an early free-kick opportunity in the first half, while Jovia Nakagolo also went close later in the game. The breakthrough came in the 100th minute when Anita Namata’s header fell into the box and Nabukenya reacted first to finish from close range.

Kawempe then held on to their lead to seal qualification for the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League. Head coach Khalifa Ayub described the result as a major step for the club, while the win also brought individual recognition: Saidat Namwanje was named best goalkeeper of the qualifiers and Nabukenya was voted the tournament’s most valuable player.

The result extends Kawempe Muslim’s strong domestic record and is significant for Ugandan women’s football more broadly. Beyond the immediate trophy, the qualification gives the club a chance to compete on a continental stage and raises the profile of the women’s game in Uganda.
