What the report says

A group of Uganda Police Force officers who entered service in 2001 has marked 25 years in uniform, with former Inspector General of Police and current Public Service Minister Gen. (Rtd) Katumba Wamala praising the cohort for producing many of the force’s notable officers. The celebration for the 70 members of Cadet Intake 2001 took place on Sunday at Skyz Hotel in Naguru, Kampala, and marked a quarter century since they reported to the Police Training School in Kibuli on August 18, 2001.

The Independent Uganda reported that Katumba, who was police chief when the cadets joined, told them they had lived up to expectations and urged them to preserve the relationships they built over the years. He also encouraged those nearing retirement to save money and plan for life after active service. His message focused on loyalty, peer support and financial preparation as officers move toward the next stage of their careers.

Among those reflecting on the milestone was AIGP (Rtd) Grace Akullo, a former head of the Criminal Investigations Directorate, who said the intake’s rise from cadets to senior commanders showed the value of discipline, hard work and resilience. The article said the intake has served across policing, investigations, health, legal, human rights and strategic roles, and includes figures such as the late AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi, AIGP Dr Elly Moses Byaruhanga and other senior officers. The group’s reach has also extended outside the police, with some members later taking positions in public institutions.
