Katikkiro hails Maganjo Grain Millers, urges Ugandans to embrace commercial farming

The Katikkiro of Buganda has commended Maganjo Grain Millers for what he described as a strong example of industrialisation, job creation and agricultural value addition in Uganda. According to Nile Post, he made the remarks during a visit to the company’s factory in Maganjo, Mutuba II Sub-county, Nabweru in Kyaddondo County, where he praised the founders for building a local food-processing and manufacturing business.

The company produces maize flour, wheat flour, animal feed and poultry feed, and its products are sold in local and overseas markets. The Katikkiro used the visit to encourage Ugandans to invest in productive ventures, especially agriculture, and to start small rather than wait for large amounts of capital before beginning a business. He also highlighted qualities he said support entrepreneurship, including vision, commitment, patience, teamwork, trust and innovation.

Maganjo Grain Millers’ founder, Dr Benon Lujja, said the business still depends heavily on imported raw materials and urged greater investment in commercial farming, particularly maize production. He said there is ready demand for agricultural produce, even as Uganda continues to source much of its grain from neighbouring countries. That message echoed the wider point made in the article: agriculture and value addition remain central to economic transformation.

Buganda officials and local leaders also backed the company’s role in development, saying it supports livelihoods, revenue generation and youth employment. The report said the firm exports to markets including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, the United Arab Emirates and South Sudan.
