Katikkiro breaks ground for Kabaka Daudi Chwa II EACOP Stadium Buddu

The Independent Uganda reported that the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) and the Buganda Kingdom have launched construction of the Kabaka Daudi Chwa II EACOP Stadium Buddu in Masaka City. The groundbreaking was led by Buganda’s Katikkiro, Charles Peter Mayiga, and attended by EACOP officials, including Deputy Managing Director John Bosco Habumugisha. The report was published on July 24, 2026.

According to the publisher, EACOP described the project as part of its longer-term sustainability and socio-economic development commitments, with a focus on delivering community benefits in areas where it operates. Mayiga welcomed the collaboration, linking it to youth empowerment and broader opportunities for communities in Buddu and the wider Masaka area.

The Independent reported that the Buganda Kingdom has allocated 10 acres for the planned sports facility, while EACOP has made a financial contribution toward its construction. Officials said the stadium is intended to support youth talent development, physical fitness, community engagement and unity. The project is also presented as part of EACOP’s social and economic investment work, particularly under youth empowerment.

For context, EACOP Ltd says the Uganda section of the pipeline covers 296 kilometres through 10 districts and 25 sub-counties. The Independent reported that seven of those districts fall within Buganda Kingdom, spanning 130 villages across four of the kingdom’s counties, including Buddu. The stadium partnership is therefore being framed by the parties as a community development initiative tied to regions affected by or connected to the pipeline route.
