Kasozi takes a 1-shot lead as Uganda Amateur Open tees off

What the report says
Joseph Kasozi has taken the early lead at the 94th Johnnie Walker Uganda Amateur Open after the first round at Uganda Golf Club in Kampala, according to The Independent Uganda. The tournament opened on a rain-affected course, and play was delayed for about an hour because of heavy rain. Kasozi finished with a 4-under-par 68, putting him one stroke ahead of fellow Ugandan Abdullah Kakooza, who is on 69.
The report said Kasozi made birdies on six holes and had one bogey as he set the pace in the 72-hole event, which runs through Friday. He said after the round that his plan was to aim for 4 under or better and that he intended to keep the same approach in the next round. John Musimenta was third on 2-under 70, while last year’s champion Joseph Cwinyaai opened with a 1-over 73.
The field includes golfers from several countries, including Zambia, Botswana, Eswatini, Serbia, the United States, Tanzania and Kenya, underscoring the event’s regional and international draw. In general, the Uganda Amateur Open is one of the country’s long-running golf championships, and early scores like Kasozi’s can shape the tone of the competition as players adjust to wet conditions and a full four-round format.
