Kasese Police Impound 54 Motorcycles in Traffic Crackdown

What the report says
Police in Kasese District have impounded 54 motorcycles during a traffic enforcement operation aimed at riders without valid licences and those carrying passengers in violation of traffic rules, according to Nile Post. The operation took place at Nyamwamba Bridge and was carried out by territorial traffic police under Rwenzori East Regional Traffic Officer SP Moses Mutabingwa.
The report says the impounded motorcycles included one without a registration number. Police said the rider of that motorcycle was arrested, charged and is awaiting court proceedings. The other motorcycles were taken to Kasese Central Police Station while owners are expected to present the required riding documents before they can be released.
ASP Elly Maate, the Rwenzori East police spokesperson, said the campaign is part of broader countrywide enforcement efforts intended to improve road safety and reduce crashes involving motorcycles, which are widely used for public transport in Uganda. Police also urged riders to obtain proper licences, respect passenger limits and comply with other traffic regulations.
The crackdown is part of continuing efforts by traffic authorities to tighten compliance in the boda boda sector, which plays a major role in transport but is often linked to road safety concerns. Nile Post’s report frames the operation as both an enforcement measure and a preventive step to protect riders and other road users.
