Karuhanga takes Ntungamo service delivery concerns to communities

Ntungamo Municipality MP Gerald Karuhanga has been meeting residents in Western Division and nearby communities, including Nyamisha and Kakukuru, to hear concerns about basic services and local administration. According to Nile Post, the discussions focused on water access, roads, health services, boundaries and livelihoods, with residents describing gaps in public services and infrastructure.

In Nyamisha, residents said a newly launched 10,000-litre water tank would help ease long-standing shortages in an area where people had relied on distant or unsafe sources. Karuhanga said the donation was meant to provide immediate relief while longer-term efforts continue to expand connections to the National Water system. He also pointed to Ntungamo’s hilly terrain as a factor that complicates reliable supply and said plans are under way for larger storage tanks at higher points in the municipality.

In Kakukuru, residents raised concerns about poor roads, damaged bridges, limited access to health facilities and other services. Some also asked to be incorporated into Ntungamo Municipality, arguing that they are close to the town and already interact with municipal systems. Karuhanga said service delivery should remain the priority, noting that boundary changes alone would not solve the underlying challenges.

The engagement also touched on the impact of recent wetland enforcement actions by the National Environment Management Authority. Karuhanga said communities affected by demolitions and crop destruction need support and alternative livelihoods as Uganda continues balancing environmental protection with economic activity.
