Kanye West's Russia shows officially cancelled after weeks of uncertainty

What the report says
Two planned stadium concerts by Ye, the artist formerly known as Kanye West, in St Petersburg, Russia, have been officially cancelled after weeks of uncertainty, according to BBC World News. The shows were scheduled for 10 and 11 October at Gazprom Arena, but the venue had already said in August that it had not agreed to host the performances.
The BBC reports that concert organiser Say Agency confirmed the cancellation on Telegram and said it would issue a fuller statement later. Before that announcement, the promoter had said it was trying to resolve the dispute with the stadium, while the arena maintained that no rental agreement had been signed.
The cancellation adds to a wider pattern of disrupted West performances in recent years. BBC World News notes that his planned shows in several countries have been called off, including in the UK, Poland, Italy and France. In Russia, the booking drew criticism from some officials and pro-war commentators, in part because of West’s past antisemitic remarks and recent controversial material. The report also frames the St Petersburg concerts as potentially significant because they would have been among the biggest Western acts in Russia since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
