Kampala’s newest upscale hotel has opened in Nsambya after President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni officially commissioned the Kampala Marriott Hotel and Executive Apartments, according to The Independent Uganda. The project was presented as a private investment by businessman Ponsiano Ngabirano under the Capital Shoppers hospitality group, with support from co-investors including the National Social Security Fund (NSSF).

The hotel includes internationally branded rooms, executive apartments and conference facilities. During the opening, Museveni described the development as a contribution to Uganda’s tourism, hospitality and broader economic transformation. He urged local investors to focus on higher-value enterprises that can create jobs, retain wealth in the country and reduce reliance on imports and imported services. He also called for more investment in sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, services and ICT.

Museveni additionally directed government agencies to enforce the 10-year corporate tax holiday for eligible investors and to look into complaints that taxes are burdening the hospitality industry. He asked the tourism ministry to expand worker training through the Uganda Hotel and Tourism Training Institute in Jinja. NSSF’s 30 percent stake in the project was praised as a model for investment in productive sectors.

Finance Minister Henry Musasizi said the hotel reflects growing investor confidence in Uganda, while Ngabirano said the project benefited from a stable business environment. The new Marriott adds to Kampala’s high-end accommodation and conference capacity, which may help the city attract more international visitors and business events.
