Kaliro District Commissions 6.3km Road

What the report says
Kaliro District has commissioned the 6.3-kilometre Bwayuya-Bumanya Road, a loose-surface route linking Kasokwe and Bumanya sub-counties. According to Nile Post, the road was opened on Wednesday at Budehe Trading Centre after construction during the 2026/2027 financial year, at a reported cost of Shs230 million. District officials said it is intended to improve movement of people and goods and make it easier for residents to reach markets, schools and health facilities.
District engineer David Edhaya said the road was built to the required standard, but he warned that its lifespan will depend on proper use and routine maintenance. He urged local leaders, including village chairpersons, to help sensitise residents on protecting the new infrastructure from damage. The article also notes that the road is expected to support the transport of agricultural produce and other commodities from the area.
Kaliro Resident District Commissioner Tomasi Matende used the commissioning to call for careful management of public funds and support for government development programmes. District chairperson Elaijah Kagoda Dhikusoka asked residents to set aside political disagreements and work together on service delivery and infrastructure. Councillor Milton Balaza said the road should help trade, but he also called for a district by-law to regulate sugarcane loading and off-loading activities, arguing that such traffic can damage roads if left unchecked.
