Kakira Rugby Club Relocates to Dam Waters

What the report says
Kakira Rugby Club has moved its main operations to The Ruck Yard Sports Club in Jinja, also known as the Jinja Rugby Grounds or Dam Waters, in a partnership announced on Monday. According to Nile Post, the arrangement is intended to give Kakira access to better facilities while supporting efforts to revive one of Uganda’s historic rugby venues. Club leaders said Kakira will keep its original base and treat the Jinja site as an additional home rather than a full departure.
Officials from both sides described the deal as part of wider plans to grow rugby in Busoga and strengthen the club’s long-term structure. Kakira Rugby Club president Nelson Mandela Ewolu said the move would help expand the game and reduce some operating costs linked to training and hosting matches. He also said the club, which has played in the Premiership, is aiming to build toward the Championship and is considering a women’s team as part of future expansion.
The Ruck Yard’s manager, Louis Ssonko, said the facility wants to develop into a major sports centre and sees rugby as a key focus. The Uganda Rugby Union welcomed the relocation, with Duncan Kirya Kawangazi saying keeping an active club at the Jinja grounds could help preserve the venue and prevent it from falling into disuse. The article added that the grounds have a long rugby history in Uganda, making the partnership significant beyond Kakira’s own ambitions.
