Kagadi Parents Seek More Government Teachers as School Enrolment Reaches 4,000

What the report says
Parents and school leaders at Kagadi Secondary School in western Uganda are pressing the Ministry of Education and Sports to deploy more government teachers and expand facilities as enrolment has grown to about 4,000 students. The appeal was made during the school’s annual general meeting, where PTA chairperson Zainabu Kabacwamba and Board of Governors chairperson Anthony Lwanga said the government-aided school is struggling with staffing and infrastructure pressures.
According to the report from Nile Post, the concerns include too few government-employed teachers, limited classroom space, inadequate staff accommodation and a shortage of laboratory equipment. The school’s head teacher, Ramadan Nyondo Barongo, who also serves as a UNEB supervisor, said Kagadi Secondary currently has 23 teachers on the government payroll and 51 others paid through private arrangements.
Barongo said the school continues to post strong academic results despite the shortfalls. Parents at the meeting agreed to keep supporting privately hired teachers, lunch for day scholars and accommodation for boarding students while also urging more state support. Kagadi District Inspector of Schools Julius Alinda said the ministry is aware of the staffing and classroom challenges and that the problems will be addressed gradually.
The school, which leaders said is about 40 years old, is viewed locally as an important public institution serving a growing student population. In a broader context, the case reflects common pressure points in many government-aided schools where enrolment rises faster than public funding, facilities and teacher recruitment.
