Kaberamaido ARDC Arikos Urges Farmers to Embrace Modern Agricultural Technologies

Dokolo Post reported that Peter Arikos, the Assistant Resident District Commissioner for Kaberamaido District, urged farmers in Kaberamaido, Uganda, to adopt modern agricultural technologies and treat farming more as a business. He made the appeal while representing the Senior Resident District Commissioner at a Farm Field Day organized by Jogwaya Farm in partnership with Riela Africa.

According to the report, the event brought together farmers, local leaders, agricultural extension workers, development partners and district officials, including representatives from Kalaki District and Kaberamaido’s production department. Demonstrations focused on technologies and equipment covering the harvest-to-harvest chain, with an emphasis on reducing losses after harvest, improving storage and drying, supporting value addition and encouraging commercial agriculture.

Arikos said the government is encouraging a move away from purely subsistence farming toward commercial production through better harvesting, post-harvest handling and marketing practices. He linked the use of improved farming methods to higher-quality produce, stronger food security, employment opportunities and better household earnings.

The report said Arikos also praised Jogwaya Farm and Riela Africa for supporting rural farmers with agricultural technologies since 2021. More broadly, the event served as a learning and exchange platform where farmers could interact with experts and consider practical ways to improve production in Kaberamaido District. The emphasis on post-harvest management is significant because losses after harvest can reduce farmer incomes even when yields are good.
