Kabale Surpasses Measles-Rubella Vaccination Target by 13%

What the report says
Kabale District in western Uganda has exceeded its measles-rubella vaccination target, according to the District Health Office cited by Nile Post. The district aimed to vaccinate 48,083 children and reached 54,198, finishing the five-day campaign at 113% coverage. The drive ran from October 1 to 5 and focused on children aged nine to 59 months.
District health officials said the campaign exceeded the target by 6,115 children. Dr. Gilbert Mateeka, identified in the report as the district health official providing the performance update, said 14 of Kabale’s 15 sub-counties, town councils and divisions met or surpassed their own targets. Kibuga recorded the highest coverage, while Buhara vaccinated the largest number of children, at 6,120.
Kaharo Sub-county was the only area that did not fully meet its goal, reaching 98% coverage after vaccinating 3,675 children against a target of 3,763. Mateeka said the results reflected the combined effort of health workers and other local stakeholders.
The campaign formed part of Uganda’s wider effort to close immunity gaps and protect children from measles and rubella, two vaccine-preventable diseases that can cause serious illness and outbreaks when coverage is low. Such mass immunization drives are commonly used to boost routine childhood vaccination levels.
