Kabale RDC Warns Against Sabotaging Measles-Rubella Vaccination Drive

What the report says
Kabale Deputy Resident District Commissioner Michael Kyakashari has urged cultural and religious leaders, along with residents, not to spread misinformation or interfere with the ongoing measles-rubella vaccination exercise in Kabale District. According to Nile Post, he said security and health teams are monitoring the five-day campaign and warned that anyone deliberately blocking it could face arrest and prosecution.
The remarks were made during the district launch at Kabale Primary School, where local officials called on parents and guardians to take eligible children for vaccination. Kabale District Health Officer Dr. Gilbert Arinaitwe Mateeka reassured the public that the vaccine is safe and effective, framing the drive as a preventive measure against measles and rubella.
Nile Post reported that Kabale District is aiming to vaccinate about 50,000 children. The local effort is part of a broader Ministry of Health campaign targeting 7,471,554 children nationwide between nine months and five years old. The health ministry says the exercise is intended to raise immunisation coverage and reduce complications linked to the two diseases.
The warning in Kabale comes amid wider concern in Uganda about vaccine hesitancy and misinformation, which can slow public health campaigns. In that context, district leaders are emphasizing cooperation so the rollout can reach as many children as possible.
