What the report says

Buganda Kingdom Education and Human Development Minister Choltilda Nakate Kikomeko has urged teachers to stop helping students cheat in examinations, warning that malpractice can leave the country with underprepared professionals. She made the remarks at Lubiri High School’s Buloba campus during a prayer service for Senior Four and Senior Six candidates ahead of their final exams.

According to Nile Post, Nakate said teachers should not provide answers or encourage dishonest behaviour, arguing that candidates who pass without the required knowledge and skills could later struggle in important fields such as medicine and engineering. Her message framed exam integrity as a broader national issue affecting Uganda’s future workforce.

The event was attended by school board members, candidates and students from nearby schools. Supreme Mufti Sheikh Muhammad Shaban Galabuzi also addressed the gathering, encouraging students to work hard, answer honestly and avoid conduct that could damage the Kabaka’s reputation. He also advised them to stay away from harmful peer groups and use holiday time productively.

Lubiri High School headteacher Charles Ssebina said the school had prepared the candidates well and expressed confidence in their performance. He noted that the school was presenting Senior Six candidates under the new curriculum for the first time. More broadly, the story reflects ongoing concern in Uganda about examination malpractice and the pressure schools face to maintain academic standards.
