WOWT reports that former UFC fighter Anthony Smith appeared in court Wednesday in Nebraska after being arrested on domestic violence-related charges. The case stems from an alleged incident in Gretna, and a judge set Smith’s bond at $500,000. According to the report, Smith faces charges of attempted first-degree domestic assault, terroristic threats and first-degree false imprisonment.

The Sarpy County Attorney’s Office said in a statement cited by WOWT that Smith was allegedly involved in an altercation with the victim at a Gretna bar on July 26. Prosecutors said Smith reportedly threatened to kill the person if they did not enter his car and go home with him. The office further alleged that Smith forced the person into the vehicle, that the person was able to get out at one point, and that Smith later made additional threats.

WOWT reported that after the pair arrived home, the alleged victim exited the vehicle again and Smith reportedly attempted several times to hit them with the car. The station said a warrant was issued Monday, and Smith later turned himself in before being arrested in Gretna. Smith waived his preliminary hearing, sending the case to district court for trial.

Smith is known for a lengthy mixed martial arts career, including fighting out of Omaha and challenging Jon Jones for the UFC light heavyweight title in 2019. The charges are allegations at this stage, and the court process will determine how the case proceeds.
