What the report says

Justice Deepa Verma and her brother Jassa Wallia have предложed a family meeting with cousins who are challenging their bid to administer the estate of the late Zura Mama Kasuku. According to Nile Post, their lawyers said they are open to talks on August 31 or September 1, 2026, before taking any further legal steps. The aim is to resolve objections that have slowed succession proceedings in the High Court Family Division in Kampala.

The dispute centres on Administration Cause No. 600 of 2026, where Verma and Jassa are seeking letters of administration. Relatives including Ahluwalia Jaspal and Bunny Wallia say they were excluded from an earlier meeting at the Office of the Administrator General, even though that meeting reportedly produced consent for the application. They also questioned the speed at which a Certificate of No Objection was issued and asked authorities to review the file and related court records.

The family conflict has also reached other offices, with complaints reportedly sent to the President, the Chief Justice, the Justice Ministry, the Inspector General of Government and the Principal Judge. The petitioners have raised concerns about beneficiary inclusion, property ownership and whether a serving judge should be involved in the succession process. The allegations have not been determined, and the parties named in the complaint had not publicly responded, according to the report.

Nile Post said the latest letter from Verma and Jassa’s lawyers frames the talks as a last attempt to settle the matter, while warning that court action could follow if no agreement is reached. The case is notable because it combines a private inheritance fight with questions of process and judicial propriety.
