Jordan 'Last Dance' jersey sells for £9m

What the report says
A Michael Jordan game-worn jersey from his final Chicago Bulls season has sold for $12.3 million, or about £9.3 million, at auction, according to Nile Post citing BBC Sport. The sale sets a record for a piece of Jordan memorabilia and involved the jersey worn in Game 3 of the 1998 NBA Finals, part of the season often referred to as his “Last Dance.”
Jordan’s Bulls defeated the Utah Jazz 4-2 in that series, giving him his sixth and final NBA championship. He was also named Finals Most Valuable Player in all six of those title-winning seasons, a marker of his dominance during the Bulls’ 1990s run.
The jersey was sold through Joopiter, Pharrell Williams’ digital auction house, after being offered by entrepreneur Ryan Gough. Joopiter had estimated the item could fetch between $10 million and $15 million. The previous record for Jordan memorabilia was $10.1 million for another 1998 Finals jersey, while the most expensive game-worn sports item on record remains Babe Ruth’s 1932 World Series jersey, sold in 2024.
The report also notes that Jordan briefly returned from retirement to play two seasons with the Washington Wizards from 2001 to 2003, providing broader context to his career after the Bulls era.
