Joint Inspection Recommends Enhanced Safety Measures for the Bukasa–Sentema–Kakiri Road Project.

What the report says

Wakiso District Local Government reports that a joint inspection team has reviewed the ongoing upgrading of the 12.17-kilometre Bukasa–Sentema–Kakiri Road to paved standards, including checks at the Bukasa Road Junction Interchange. The team brought together officials from the Ministry of Kampala Capital City and Metropolitan Affairs, the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development, the Ministry of Works and Transport, the Wakiso District technical team, the contractor, supervising consultants and environmental and social safeguards specialists.

According to the district, the inspection focused on progress, community safety and compliance with social safeguards. The team recommended coordinated engagement among the Ministry of Works and Transport, the African Development Bank and the World Bank to help resolve emerging issues and keep the project on schedule. It also advised the contractor, Chongqing International Construction Corporation, to cover open drainage channels more quickly, carry out a fuller project risk assessment and update the mapping of affected properties and utilities.

The district said the team commended the project’s environmental and social safeguards efforts and urged stronger occupational health and safety practices, including proper use of personal protective equipment at work sites. The road works are supervised by Aarvee Associates in joint venture with Adriax Consults and Global Amet Allies Limited, with environmental and social safeguards support from Infrastructure Development and Management.

Wakiso District said the UGX 56.1 billion project began in May 2025 and is expected to finish in November 2026. It said the road will improve connectivity, road safety and broader socio-economic activity in Wakiso District and the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area.
