Johnnie Walker’s Afro Exchange added a social and cultural finale to the Uganda Amateur Open at Uganda Golf Club, turning the tournament’s traditional 19th-hole gathering into an evening centered on music, fashion, food and African identity. According to Nile Post, the five-day event moved from competition to celebration on Saturday night after the main amateur contest had ended the previous day.

The program, hosted by media personality Deedan, featured live performances and DJ Van’s curated set, with Ugandan acts alongside wider African sounds. Joshua Baraka’s music was part of the soundtrack, and dancehall performer Karole Kasita also took the stage, drawing audience participation. Guests were encouraged to dress in Afro-inspired attire, while an East African-themed buffet underscored the cultural theme.

Former Uganda Golf Union president Moses Matsiko, speaking as guest of honour with current president Dr Jackson Were present, said the gathering reflected the friendships and shared values that extend beyond scorecards. Johnnie Walker representative Kyokunda said the brand wanted to connect golf with its Keep Walking message by highlighting individual journeys and bringing people together through culture. The company positioned Afro Exchange as a way to extend the tournament experience beyond play on the course.

On the sporting side, Zambia’s Dominic Musonda won the Amateur Open on nine under par, with compatriot Gilbert Chalwe second and Uganda’s Joseph Cwinya-ai third. Attention now shifts to the professional Johnnie Walker Uganda Open, with the Absa Pro-Am scheduled for September 1 and the main professional rounds beginning September 2, ending with a finale on September 5.
