The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that rookie Jim Jarvis is strengthening his case to remain the Atlanta Braves’ regular shortstop after another productive game Wednesday. Jarvis hit a go-ahead RBI double in the eighth inning against the San Diego Padres, helping trigger a six-run rally in a 7-6 Braves win. The result guaranteed Atlanta at least a split in the four-game series.

According to the AJC, Jarvis is batting .308 with an .826 OPS through 17 games while also providing high-level defense. Since returning to the majors earlier in July, he has hit .302 with a home run, a triple and four doubles over 13 games. The article frames his emergence as significant because shortstop has been a problem area for Atlanta since Dansby Swanson left after the 2022 season and Orlando Arcia’s strong first half in 2023 faded.

Jarvis’ role could soon become a roster decision. Veteran Ha-Seong Kim, described by the AJC as a $20 million player, is rehabbing at Triple-A Gwinnett and is due back by Aug. 2. Kim had struggled before the assignment, hitting .068 with a .239 OPS in 27 games.
