The New York Post, citing a CNBC report, said JetBlue has won Spirit Airlines’ takeoff and landing slots at New York’s LaGuardia Airport, a potentially significant gain at one of the country’s most capacity-constrained airports. According to the report, JetBlue told employees Monday that it is still assessing how the slots fit into its network plans and that any added service would not begin until 2027.

The Post reported that the package involves 12 roundtrip slots and remains subject to final court and regulatory approvals. JetBlue also said it hopes to return to LaGuardia’s Terminal A, the former Marine Air Terminal, where Spirit had operated before shutting down in May and where JetBlue was previously based. The airline described the terminal in its staff note as convenient for travelers, according to the report.

The development follows Spirit’s reported collapse after a failed effort to obtain a $500 million bailout from the Trump administration and a second bankruptcy filing in less than two years. The Post said Spirit’s assets are being handled in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in New York. The carrier, known for low fares and its yellow aircraft, had faced steep losses and other cost pressures before ceasing operations.

If approved, the slots would give JetBlue more room to grow at LaGuardia, where strict operating limits make access especially valuable. The move also comes as JetBlue is reshaping parts of its network, including previously announced cost-cutting at Newark and LaGuardia-related operations and expansion plans in Fort Lauderdale.
