JESA announces temporary milk shortage as dry season cuts production

JESA Farm Dairy has told customers it is facing a temporary shortage of milk products in Uganda, saying prolonged dry weather has reduced milk production among dairy farmers supplying the company. In a statement issued by management on Sunday, the firm linked the supply squeeze to the wider impact of the dry spell on pasture and water availability, which has affected yields from its own farm in Busunju as well as its out-grower farmers in central Uganda.

According to the Nile Post report, the shortage is affecting JESA’s product supply on the market, though the company described the problem as temporary. JESA asked consumers to be patient while the dry conditions continue to pressure dairy farming communities. The company also said it remains focused on maintaining product quality and continuing to serve customers despite the reduced supply.

JESA is one of Uganda’s major dairy brands, producing fresh milk, yoghurt and other dairy products. The announcement adds to broader concerns about the effects of the extended dry season in parts of the country, where farmers have reported lower crop and livestock productivity. More broadly, such weather disruptions can affect food supply chains by reducing raw milk volumes and increasing pressure on processors and retailers, although the company did not give a timeline for when supplies might normalize.
