The Associated Press reports that Jared Leto has denied allegations of sexual misconduct and assault described in a BBC documentary released Wednesday. Four women accused the actor and musician of misconduct when they were teenagers, according to the AP account of the documentary, “Jared Leto: Hollywood’s Dark Secret.” Leto, 54, told the AP in a statement that he has never sexually assaulted anyone and said the claims are false.

According to AP, the BBC documentary includes allegations said to have occurred between 2002 and 2016, when Leto was an adult. The women are not identified by full names in the film. AP reported that one woman alleged she was sexually assaulted at 17, another alleged statutory rape at the same age, a third said she was 19 when Leto threatened her with sexual assault, and another said she was 16 when he made sexually explicit phone calls and propositioned her.

AP said the BBC stated that it corroborated the women’s accounts, but AP could not independently verify them. The BBC also said Leto did not respond to its requests for comment before the documentary aired. AP reported it contacted the BBC on Wednesday seeking a response to Leto’s denial.

The report adds to previous scrutiny of Leto, who was accused of misconduct by nine women in an Air Mail article last year; his representative denied those allegations at the time. Leto is an Oscar-winning actor known for “Dallas Buyers Club” and is also the frontman of Thirty Seconds to Mars.
