Japan Boosts Kwania Education with UGX 330m Classroom Project

Dokolo Post reports that the Japanese Embassy in Uganda has commissioned a UGX 330 million classroom and infrastructure project at Amorigoga Primary School in Abongomola Sub-county, Kwania District. The support followed a proposal submitted by the school’s headteacher, Joel Ayeni, and includes a two-classroom block with an office, toilet facilities, 76 desks and a 500-watt solar power system.

Ayeni welcomed the project, saying it should ease learning conditions at a school with more than 1,200 pupils. He also appealed for additional support, including fencing, dormitories and more classrooms, citing continued growth in enrolment. District officials also praised the intervention: Deputy Chief Administrative Officer Robert Okwanga Alem said the facilities should help improve learning outcomes, while LC5 Chairperson George Kakoma Akacha described the support as a contribution to Uganda’s education infrastructure.

Resident District Commissioner Richard Arikwanga Noon urged parents, school leaders and the wider community to safeguard the new facilities and warned against vandalism and poor maintenance. Japan’s Deputy Ambassador to Uganda, H.E. Yoshida Norimasa, said the project was signed on 28 January 2026 under Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects, with Tukiz Construction Company Limited awarded the contract. He said embassy representatives would return in two years to assess whether the facilities are being used and maintained properly.

According to the Japanese Embassy, more than 296 projects have been funded in Uganda across education, health and other sectors. Dokolo Post notes that Kwania remains among districts facing significant school infrastructure gaps, making the new classrooms relevant to local efforts to improve access and learning conditions.
