Janzi Band faces major line-up changes as several long-serving members exit

What the report says
Janzi Band is undergoing a notable line-up shake-up after several long-serving members confirmed they are leaving the Ugandan ensemble, according to Sqoop Uganda. Among those publicly announcing their exit are Kiwanuka Hakim, known as Jajja Bam, and Chikuru Bonah, both of whom said they were parting ways with the group after years of working together.
In separate statements, the two musicians framed the move as the end of one chapter and the start of another. Jajja Bam thanked supporters and referenced a long run with the band dating back to 2014, while Bonah said the split was mutual and expressed appreciation for the experiences and memories shared with the group. The departures have drawn attention because the musicians have been closely associated with the band’s development over several years.
Janzi Band management responded by acknowledging the exits and saying the group has navigated membership changes before. It said replacements are already in place and that performance standards will be maintained as the band moves into a new phase. Founder and band leader Ssewa Ssewa is expected to address the changes in a live-streamed public update on Monday, August 24, where he will reportedly explain the transition and introduce new members.
The situation matters because Janzi Band is a visible part of Uganda’s music scene, and line-up changes can affect both its public image and performance continuity. The management message suggests the group wants to reassure fans that its work will continue despite the departures.
