What the report says
Jamuliro Yusuf of Nakaloke, Mbale, has won the Eastern Region finals of Salam TV’s seventh Omumanyi wa Salam TV quiz competition, held at the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) main campus in Mbale. According to Nile Post, the event took place on Saturday, October 3, 2026, and drew contestants from across the region for questions on theology, history, current affairs and general knowledge.
The competition was organised by Salam TV and supported by MTN MoMo. About 40 people took part before six finalists were selected. Yusuf finished ahead of Genza Muhamad, Kinanswa Zainab, Ssetuba Jumah Hassan, Nakimuli Salwa and Buyondo Nasser. The guest of honour was Minister of State for Public Service Lydia Wanyoto Mutende, who praised the programme for community engagement and encouraged young people to join initiatives that build personal and community development.
Yusuf’s win earned him a fully funded Umrah pilgrimage to Makkah and Madinah, provided by Salam TV and Al-Misbaahu Hajj and Umrah Services, as well as qualification for the national final scheduled for December 19, 2026. Genza Muhamad received a television set and other prizes, while Kinanswa Zainab was given a smartphone and perfume. Other finalists also received household items and electronics. More broadly, the competition is part of Salam TV’s effort to expand the quiz beyond Kampala and involve participants from several regions across Uganda.
