NBCSports.com’s Pro Football Talk reported that veteran defender Jamal Adams is joining the Minnesota Vikings, making Minnesota the sixth NFL team for the former No. 6 overall pick in the 2017 draft. The report, published July 27, 2026, cited Jordan Schultz as first reporting the signing and noted that Adams later confirmed the move on social media with a Vikings-themed message.

Adams entered the league with the New York Jets and became one of the NFL’s most prominent defensive backs early in his career. According to NBCSports.com, he spent three seasons with the Jets, earned two Pro Bowl selections, was a second-team All-Pro in 2018 and a first-team All-Pro in 2019. He was then traded to the Seattle Seahawks in 2020, made another Pro Bowl and was again named second-team All-Pro.

The report also notes that Adams signed a four-year, $70 million extension with Seattle in 2021, at the time making him the highest-paid safety in league history. He remained with the Seahawks through 2023, then played for the Tennessee Titans and Detroit Lions in 2024. Last season, after moving from safety to linebacker, he appeared in 17 games with four starts for the Las Vegas Raiders.

NBCSports.com said it is not yet clear whether Adams will play safety or linebacker in defensive coordinator Brian Flores’ system. The move matters because Adams brings high-end experience and positional versatility to a Vikings defense known for using varied alignments and creative pressure packages.
